Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra, a highly rated and extremely functional Gen 4 robotic vacuum and mop, is a well made machine. The $1400 list price may be hard to swallow however, it is usually offered for sale to make it more affordable. The unit looks fantastic, and the base station takes up very little space in a corner of a room.
The design of this robot addresses a few problems that we have encountered with other robotic mop and vacuum units, like the brushes getting tangled in hair, or the brush not being able to reach floors that are not covered by furniture. The sweeping performance on floors and carpets is also impressive. The vacuum/mop system has an excellent level of debris pickup, and the mop is able to absorb the bare floor quickly.
The mops also employ an advanced system for cleaning around the edges of furniture and walls. The robot is able to effortlessly avoid obstacles like toys, food bowls and backpacks. However, it could get stuck or become entangled with smaller and flatter objects like shoelaces, USB cables, and pen.
This robot was used to vacuum and mop hardwood flooring FLOR carpet tiles as well as pile rugs in an open-plan home. It was able to vacuum and mop the 90m2 space in 170 minutes with FREO Mind enabled. This is a bit more than average for Gen 4 robots.
The robot is distinguished by a variety of features. Freo X Ultra is equipped with numerous improvements in sensors, software, and hardware to keep it on top of its class. It has been declared to have an autonomy of 3.5 hours for environments of up to 260 square meters.
Freo's app allows you to customize multiple functions, including how often the robot comes to its base station. You can also alter the frequency of mopping and the power level (silent, intelligent) or the mopping humidity. The app is able to detect stained areas and design an effective cleaning route. It can also distribute detergent, or raise the carpet pads.
Other notable features include a quick charging battery, a simple-to-read display on the robot's bottom and a handy dock door that can be opened easily. The Freo X Ultra vacuum and mop is ideal for home and apartment owners who want to reduce their chores and keep their homes tidy.
Miele Scout RX3
Miele has a reputation of quality and innovation in the field of robot vacuuming. The new Miele robot is designed to take it to the next level with innovative features and top-of-the-line cleaning performance.
The RX3 has a dual-suction system and intelligent mapping that incorporates 3D mapping and a camera which transmits an image in real-time to your smartphone. Its powerful four-stage cleaning system offers excellent dust pickup on carpet and hard flooring, while the intuitive swing-out side brushes and dual suction channels clean in corners. Its 8.5 cm height allows it to reach under low furniture. Front cameras and infrared sensor assist in navigating obstacles, thresholds and obstructions with ease.
The Scout RX3 impressed us in our test of how well it cleaned baking powder from corners and baseboards. Its 2,500Pa of suction was less powerful than other robots but it was able to move quickly and was very quiet. It didn't mop however, and its removable cleaning pads were fiddly to attach and didn't deal with dried-on dirt.
Its app lacks advanced features, such as multiple cleaning modes or automated scheduling. It works with Alexa but its voice controls don't seem to be very precise or responsive. It's also a bit sporadic when it comes back to the charging station following the course. Other robots can follow the wall or trace a previous route however the RX3 stumbles around until it gives up.

We also had issues with the intelligent features of the device, such as its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. While it did a decent job of avoiding our shoes and furniture legs, it got easily caught by cables and socks and couldn't handle the tassels of rugs. We decided not to include the Scout RX3 on our Best Buy list. However, with a reasonable price tag and impressive performance it's a Scout RX3 is worth considering in the event you're looking to find a smarter alternative to traditional uprights.
